Regional Development Australia
__________________________

The Australian Government is implementing its regional development policy. As part of this process, Central Victoria ACC, along with all other ACCs, will be transitioned into the new Regional Development Australia (RDA) organisation. It is expected that this process will be completed by 31 December 2008.

As part of this process, the Rudd Government asked ACC"s to consult with regional communities and individuals to obtain feedback on ways to improve the way government works with and supports regional communities CVACC

CVACC has completed stage one of this process and presented its response to government on the 31st August 2008. You can download a copy of this response by clicking here

Further to stage one of the process the Government has asked ACC's to seek information from the community on 2 additional stages:

  • Principles and priorities for the new Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program which is to be developed as part of the 2009 -10 Budget. CVACC's advice on this issue will be developed with the aim of assisting the Australian Government to invest in genuine community infrastructure and economic development, while minimising administrative costs to the taxpayer; and
  • Priorities for the types of local community infrastructure that could encourage economic development in local communities.

Rather than a focus on specific project ideas, the Minister is seeking strategic advice on the types of community infrastructure that may increase economic investment, improve the job opportunities in regional Australia, and enhance the liveability of regional centres.

The Minister has also indicated that the Government is particularly seeking advice on ways to invest in public and not-for-profit infrastructure rather than private business organisations.

CVACC has been asked to provide a report on stage 2 and 3 to the Australian Government by October 31st. If you would like to get more information or provide feedback on these issues please contact Paul Henderson on 5442 8773

This is an important exercise that has the potential to greatly improve the way government's work with regional communities to better reflect local community needs, that's why community views, your views, are important and needed.
